Picture Day Tomorrow -Wednesday, September 27th

Just a quick reminder that pictures are tomorrow. Please return the "pose" slip if you have a preference on your child's pose.

Grade 4 Place Value Quiz-Monday, October 2nd.

Students have been working hard on learning about numbers. For their quiz on Monday, they will need to know the following:

  • How to read, write and represent numbers in
    • Standard Form
    • Expanded form
    • Words
    • Pictures/Symbols
    • Base10 blocks

Learning  Commons

Both the grade 4 & 6 class will be visiting the Learning Commons on Tuesdays. Please ensure your child has brought their book(s) back to school even if they are renewing them.

Assessment Folders

The Assessment Folders go home and Friday and should be returned on Monday. I am trying to get students into the routine of bringing them back on Monday. Of course, I understand that life is busy and if the folder is accidentally left at home, please return it on Tuesday. Please take out and keep any exit slips, practice, or review sheets in the "Yours to Keep" side. If I require a parent signature, I will place it on the "Sign and Return" side and it will be marked with a red stamp.

Welcome to our Blog!

Welcome to our class blog! My name is Mrs.Marchant and I teach grade 4 & 6 Math & Language. I am very excited to be your child's teacher this year.  We will also have a second-year Teacher Candidate, Ms.Carroll, from the University of Ottawa this year.

I have taught Kindergarten to grade 8 over the past 14 years in 3 different provinces. I graduated from the University of Regina with a B.Ed and taught 5 years in Alberta before moving to Ottawa. My background is in special education and elementary education with a specialist in reading. I feel it is essential for us (parents and school staff) to work together in order to provide your child with an optimum learning environment. You can contact me through our class blog at www.marchant1718.blogspot.com OR call the school at (613) 834-6334.

If you would like to stay current, please follow our class blog by email (sign up is at the bottom of the page). You can also follow me on Twitter @MrsMarchantCLA or search #gr4cla OR #gr6cla.

Our homeroom will be room #107 with grade 6 in the morning and grade 4 in the afternoon. Each child will be bringing home a schedule of their day and a list of their teachers for your reference. This year, I will be teaching both Math and English Language Arts to both grades 4 & 6. The grade 4 & 6 students in extended French program will have Mr.Karpinski as their French teacher. The Religion teachers will be Mrs.McKittrick for grade 4 students and the grade 6s will have Mrs.Pelletier. The grade 6 Immersion students will go to Mme.Corriveau or Mme.Gauthier (she is replacing Mme.Joly for this academic year) and grade 4 Immersion students will have Mme.Corriveau. My grade 4 teaching partner is Mrs.Martinuzzi and she will also be teaching Math/Language as well. We hope to do a lot of team teaching and #STEM challenges together as we integrate technology and the New Pedagogies for Deep Learning.

We are working towards a paperless classroom, therefore, students will not require a lot of school supplies. They may want to bring their own labeled pencil kit, but it is not essential as we also have classroom supplies. Each child will require a pair of indoor running shoes with non-marking souls for use in the gym and classroom. We also welcome boxes of Kleenex, Ziplock bags, and hand soap for general classroom use at any time during the year.

Please remember that the safety and well-being of our students is of the utmost importance. St. Clare is a nut-free, peanut-free and scent-free school.  Please check the ingredients of lunch and snack foods carefully, and enjoy any containing nuts or peanuts at home only. Please keep this in mind when we are on school excursions. As well, parents volunteering at the school are asked to avoid the use of perfumes and other scented products for the comfort and safety of students with environmental sensitivities.  Your cooperation is very important and greatly appreciated.

Students are encouraged to bring a labeled water bottle to keep on their desk throughout the day. Staying well hydrated, together with eating healthy snacks, helps to improve energy, concentration, and alertness, and builds better eating habits for a healthy lifestyle.

I look forward to meeting you all during our Curriculum Night, Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30 p.m. If there are any concerns you would like us to be aware of now, or at any time in the school year, please don’t hesitate to contact us.  Thank you!

I look forward to working with you and your child to make this a successful year at St.Clare!
